The movie “Maleficent,” released in 2014, is a remake and live-action film of Disney’s popular animated film “Sleeping Beauty.” Surprisingly, the main character in this film is not a princess, but the story is told from the “villain’s point of view.” The famous Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie plays Maleficent, one of the most popular characters among the Disney villains. With its subject matter and cast, the film attracted a great deal of attention at the time of its production announcement and during filming. When it was released in movie theaters, it became a huge hit, as expected, and a sequel was later made, proving its success among audiences.

Maleficent’s plaintive cry

She teaches that it is humans who create demons and witches like Maleficent and that humans themselves are evil. Betrayed by humans, her upbringing, her first love, her first betrayal by her first love.

The most impressive scene in the film is when Maleficent loses her wings. In the scene where Maleficent wakes up and realizes that her wings were clipped while sleeping, Angelina Jolie’s performance is spectacular. Her heartbreaking screams are still so vividly remembered to this day.

Since we humans do not have feathers, it is difficult to imagine what the loss of a feather would mean to a person. However, from her cries, I felt the same grief as those who had to have their legs, arms, or other body parts amputated or lost. The fact that the feather was a part of her body made a strong impression on the viewers. Her performance made me feel that her experience as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador visiting various medical institutions was also a part of her performance.

A fairyland of visual beauty

Many people watching “Sleeping Beauty” may have wondered if Maleficent is a witch because she has a wand and can use magic. I was one of them, and I mistakenly thought that Maleficent was a witch for a long time. However, Maleficent is not a witch but a “fairy. I was unaware of this fact, but watching this film made me realize that Maleficent is a fairy. The way the fairyland is depicted at the film’s beginning is the most appropriate way to impress upon us that Maleficent is a request.

Moor, the fairyland where Maleficent lives, is depicted as a land more colorful and full of life than its name might suggest. The name “Moor” conjures up images of dark and dreary swamps, as in the works of the Bronte sisters. However, the Moors in this film were bright and full of fantasy despite being a marshy area. It was made possible by the beautiful VFX technology. The director of this film, Robert Stromberg, has worked as an art director on numerous fantasy films and is highly skilled at visualizing fantasy worlds. He has been the art director for multiple fantasy films and is highly skilled at visualizing fantasy worlds. The exquisite harmony between Moore’s nature and the story was outstanding.

More enjoyable if you’ve seen “Sleeping Beauty”.

The original film “Sleeping Beauty,” made by hand, is famous for not being a satisfactory hit, even though it was produced before Walt Disney’s death. The character I enjoyed the most was Diaval, Maleficent’s minion in this film. In the animated movie, the character was a crow named Diablo, but in “Maleficent,” he is magically transformed into various creatures, including humans. Although he was portrayed as a very clever being in the animated film, he is more of a loyal servant in this film. Compared to the cool Maleficent, Diaval is more human-like, and the scenes between the two are exciting.

Princess Aurora, the main character in the animated version, also plays a significant role in this film. Unfortunately, in the animated version, we don’t know much of Princess Aurora’s story because she is usually asleep. Still, in this film, we can fully enjoy scenes of Princess Aurora interacting with Maleficent and playing an active role in the film’s climax. Some of the visuals and her meeting with Prince Philip are depicted as taken directly from the original story. In contrast, many of the storylines are original, and the differences from “Sleeping Beauty” can be greatly enjoyed. It is a live-action version of the film starring Maleficent, a very popular villain among many Disney fans. The story and setting are different from “Sleeping Beauty,” which makes it an original story full of enjoyable elements. Angelina Jolie’s performance is excellent, and the visual beauty of the fairyland of Moore will captivate your eyes and heart. The characters are cute and recommended for those who want to immerse themselves in a fantastical world with their children.
