The songs and dances are full of fun for everyone! The famous scene from the cartoon where they sing "Whole New World" on the magic carpet is still good. The only drawback is that Jeannie is a blue Will Smith, not Jeannie.

Aladdin 2019 | Disney Movies
Since its theatrical release in 1992, the animated film Aladdin, featuring the immortal Jasmine, one of the most famous Disney princesses of all time, has shown remarkable popularity, with sequel movies and an animated TV series being produced. In particular, the song “Whole New World” won an Academy Award and is still popular as a standard duet number.
The recent wave of live-action Disney films, such as the hugely popular film “Aladdin,” was reborn in 2019 as a new live-action version of “Aladdin (2019).”
Live-action adaptation of Disney’s timeless classic with Guy Ritchie as director.
When the production of the live-action “Aladdin” film was first announced, the announcement that Guy Ritchie would be directing the movie was a surprise. Ritchie is a popular British director, but he has made many films that have attracted a large male audience. For example, his stylish action films, such as “Sherlock Holmes” and Codename U.N.C.L.E. have gained popularity. The combination of his background and Disney animation may indeed be surprising. In particular, since Jasmine, the heroine of “Aladdin,” is one of the Disney princesses, some people think the film is also for women.
However, given that the hero of the film “Aladdin” is a man named Aladdin, as the title suggests, and that he is a sneak thief, it is not surprising that Ritchie would direct the film. Thieves are his specialty, as they have frequently appeared in Ritchie’s films. When I saw the movie, the overall fantasy world of the Disney movie was expanded with Ritchie’s typical fast and stylish action, creating a good synergy effect.
Colorful productions to adorn the screen.
Another point of interest is the colorful color scheme of the live-action “Aladdin” movie. At Disneyland’s Arabian Coast theme park, which represents the world of “Aladdin,” bright colors are sprinkled throughout the white-colored space, which is eye-catching.
Such is the world of Aladdin in the live-action film “Aladdin,” and even more colorful than that is the space on the screen. The characters’ colorful costumes stand out in the desert space, and the tapestries and other accessories are also bright and visually pleasing. One of the most eye-catching scenes was that of “Prince Ali’s Street,” sung by Jeannie the Lamp Witch. This song requires an extravagant and gorgeous performance to impress the audience with Aladdin as a prince, and it is clear that many more colorful performances have been added compared to the original. The use of color and other aspects of the music shows the power of modern visuals.

On the other hand, many have pointed out that the coloring is too Indian rather than Arabic. Naomi Scott, who plays the heroine Jasmine, is also an actor with Indian roots, and the dancing is somewhat Bollywood-like. Many people pointed out that both Arabs and Indians are in Asia, and that Asia is being mixed up in the West. These points were valid. I felt that the dancing scenes and the use of colors were similar to the movie “Muthu”.
Bollywood is a combination of “B” in Bombay and Hollywood, the movie capital of the U.S. It is also a generic term for Indian films characterized as unique entertainment films with song and dance scenes.

And, “Aladdin and the Magic Lamp,” on which the film “Aladdin” is based, is introduced as “The Arabian Nights’ Entertainment.” Still, Arabian Nights is also a work without an original form.
Update to 2020, which drew controversy.
Other negative remarks about the live-action “Aladdin” movie have been raised. It can be seen in the 57% Tomatometer (as of 2/13/2025) on the review site Rotten Tomatoes. It is because, for example, Jafar, the film’s villain, is set younger than in the animated version (he looked probably in his late 40s or early 50s, although his age is not set. Maybe even older than that). In contrast, Marwan Kenzari, who plays Jafar in this film, was in his late 30s. It was an update to the scene where Jafar tries to force Jasmine to marry him, in response to the suggestion that there was too much of an age difference between them. It may have been an improvement in response to complaints about the setting of the animated version. Still, some people also raised the opinion that a young woman being married off to a man as old as her father masks the darkness that is happening in real life.
Jasmine is also one of the rare Disney princesses without a solo song, and this live-action version is the first time a solo song has been created for her.
I believe that Disney seeks to improve each remake according to the era in which it is released. The change in the way Jasmine is portrayed in this film would fall into this very category. Her willingness to take the lead in the live-action version of “Aladdin” over the animated version was a necessary update for 2020. Adding her solo song was a big plus for the production.
However, the fact that there are arguments for changes from the original symbolizes the fact that so many people have loved the original Jasmine for so long.
The live-action film “Aladdin” is a modern update of a classic by an unexpected director for a live-action Disney animated film. The vivid colors and story setting, updated for the contemporary screen, made this a film worthy of retelling for 2020.
