I highly recommend this place!

  • A true story based on a true story that gave me an insight into the harsh reality of the Iraq War.
  • The high cost of war is sobering.
  • The silence of the end roll makes it hard to escape the aftermath.

Summary

Academy Award ®--winning filmmaker Clint Eastwood returns to the wartime genre with AMERICAN SNIPER, starring Oscar® nominee Bradley Cooper (American Hustle) as Chris Kyle, the most lethal sniper in U.S. military history.

Quoted from the official website

It would be a propaganda kind of heroic tale because it was a movie about a natural person.
It was a calm and neutral war movie.
It conveys in a way that is easy to understand: the separated families, the harsh battles, the effects of war on the human psyche, and so on.
Almost no music was used, so the scenes were direct, even though they were hidden and spectacular.

Directed by Clint Eastwood

This film, directed by actor and filmmaker Clint Eastwood, who also directed and starred in “Million Dollar Baby” (2004) and “The Courier” (2018), grossed over 500 million at the worldwide box office.
This figure is an astounding number for a film produced by Clint Eastwood, a director, and the film attracted worldwide attention, especially in the mainland United States. As a result, it has created a heated debate as to whether Chris, who took the lives of 160 people, including children and women, was a hero or a brutal murderer.
It isn’t easy to give a simple answer to this debate. Still, it is worthwhile to create an opportunity to think about war. Incidentally, Eastwood, who portrayed Chris as a hero for his role in the Iraq war, has made it clear that he does not support the Iraq war.

Serious problems hit soldiers returning home after going off to battle.

Soldiers who spend weeks on the battlefield in an environment that constantly sharpens their nerves and keeps them on their toes often have PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) when they return to their home countries.

Chris sees his newborn baby crying, and he overlaps it with the boy he shot and killed or the boy who cried because Chris was abused; Chris is sensitive to the sound of a departing train, and when Chris sees the TOYOTA logo, Chris is wary that he might be a terrorist… Even after returning to the peaceful U.S., she is troubled by the same tension she felt in the war zone and cannot escape it. Family relationships also become strained.

Winning a war is not enough. Nor is it enough to return safely from the battlefield. I was able to experience the horrific aspects of war genuinely.

Comparison with the Original Story

American Sniper” is based on the autobiography “Navy SEAL’s Best Sniper” by the main character Chris Kyle.

*The following touches on some essential points of the story. Please be careful if you have not seen the film.

Age of the main character, Chris

The story in the movie version is that Chris, who showed his talent as a sniper while hunting with his father as a child and was taught by his father to be someone who could protect the weak and bullied, decided to enlist for his country after seeing the brutal images of the 9/11 attacks. Although he was called “old” because he was 30 years old when Chris enlisted, he overcame the harsh training and joined the SEALs in fine form.

However, Chris was born in 1974 and joined the SEALs before the 9/11 attacks. We also know his training period was in his 20s, not 30. In other words, the story was adapted as a setting to tell a story of love for one’s country and loyalty to it.

Mustafa.

Mustafa, the Iraqi sniper who hunts down Chris, is set up in the movie version as being so good that he has been on the podium of the Olympic shooting competition. He greedily pursues Chris to get the bounty for killing him based on the tattoo on his arm, and Chris’s friends also fall victim to him.

In the film version, Chris is presented as a sniper as skilled as his adversary. Still, in the original story, there is no mention of Chris engaging Mustafa, so it is clear that the “shooting from 1920 meters away” is also a footnote.

Everyone’s comments

  • Eastwood’s unique visual beauty and portrayal of changing people are lovely.
  • There are pros and cons, but how can we look at people who go to the battlefield to protect their loved ones, even though they may have a mental illness, have their limbs amputated, or come back as corpses?
  • The stories based on actual events are compelling.
