The way the initially innocent and dainty protagonist becomes the exact opposite character while suffering for acting is one of the most amazing things.

Released in 2010, the film “Black Swan,” based on Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet “Swan Lake,” received critical acclaim and won numerous awards. It was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and its lead actress, Natalie Portman, won Best Actress.
A stunning performance by Natalie Portman
The most distinctive feature of the movie “Black Swan” is the stunning performance by Natalie Portman in the lead role. Swan Lake,” the subject of this film, initially required the lead ballerina to play the roles of Odette, the innocent white swan, and Odile, the charming black swan, in a double role, which is well known for its high degree of difficulty. The story is cleverly based on this, and Portman’s Nina gradually transforms from a white bird to a blackbird, a role she plays with great skill.
Portman, who has been active as a child actor since childhood, has deliberately and intentionally given herself an “uptight” and “honor student” image at some point in her career. He also skillfully utilizes this public image to impress upon the audience the image of a vulnerable and pure Nina at the beginning of the work. At the same time, Nina’s mental instability and uncertainty are expressed with frightening care. The gradation of acting during Nina’s perversion between reality and rigor and her eventual awakening to the Black Swan was genuinely excellent. Portman also played the role of Anne Boleyn in the film “The Other Boleyn Girl (2008 film).” Since this film gave her an image of a bad girl, the audience quickly accepted her.
Portman was also highly praised for her performance in the ballet portion of the film. The ballet scenes, which he took on after a year of training, were truly outstanding, especially the Black Swan dance, one of the highlights of the performance, was so full of spirit that you would think you would be eaten alive if you watched it. It was so powerful that you could close your eyes and immediately picture it. There was some wrangling with the body double about the ballet scene. Still, at least all the credit goes to Portman for the stamina of the performance in that facial expression.
A world of perversion, where even the audience may be fooled.
One of the critical settings of the film “Black Swan” is the mental health problems of the main character, Nina. From the film’s beginning, it is suggested that Nina is mentally on the very edge. Still, as the story progresses, her delusions and hallucinations continue to worsen. The more Nina becomes an unreliable character in her role of introducing the story, the more and more we, the film’s viewers, find ourselves lost in a world of perversion, unsure of what is true and what is not.
The scene where Nina and Lily spend the night together is a prime example of the film’s ability to keep the audience on the edge of their seats. The protagonist’s untrustworthiness increases the suspense, and the thrilling turn of events leaves everyone holding their breath and staring at the screen. The tension reaches its peak in the Black Swan scene, which is skillfully staged to keep the viewers intrigued and engaged. The direction and screenplay create an environment in which the viewers are drawn into the story, and it’s no wonder that the film was nominated for and won numerous awards, including Best Picture and Best Screenplay.
The strong energy released by the supporting cast
The other actor who made a splash in this film besides Portman was Mila Kunis, who played the role of Lily. She played the role of Lily, a charming and somewhat uninhibited ambitious woman. With her implied expressions and gazes, she accentuated the thrilling development of the film. Nina’s instability became more apparent because of her presence. Surprisingly, Kunis, who had previously appeared in many comedies, gave such a performance. She was an incredible talent.
Barbara Hershey’s performance as Nina’s mother, Erica, was outstanding. While she had a solid stage-mom aspect, her constricting, with-or-without, implied performance was so tense that it made me sweat uncomfortably to watch her. She embodied a sense of either wanting or being jealous of her daughter’s success, perhaps both, and her unique cotton-picking was frightening, as it was immediately apparent that she was the cause of Nina’s mental problems.
I also think the suspicious presence of Vincent Cassel, who played the role of Thomas, the French director, was significant in this film. Just by appearing in the film, he wore a suspicious atmosphere, and it was easy to understand that “Oh, Nina is going to be driven mad by this person,” and I felt that he cast an exquisite shadow over the story.
The supporting characters, with their ability and presence, were able to create these unpleasant atmospheres, which made the story stand out even more and raised the overall level of perfection of the film. The direction and script, the lead and supporting actors, and Tchaikovsky’s wonderful ballet music all contribute to the film’s overall perfection. The Black Swan” is one of those thriller masterpieces that are a perfect blend of these elements. If you are ready to experience it, why not witness the awakening of the Black Swan?
