It had been long since I had seen a modern submarine movie. The film was full of details such as torpedoing the enemy ship, breaking through the tense torpedo zone, and tilting at an angle during the submarine scene. Another important character in the film is a special forces officer. The film was well-balanced, with both dramas being exciting.

The Movie I wrote about this time is “Hunter-Killer”, a submarine action film from the producers of the “Wild Speed” series. Films about submarines have been seen frequently, but in recent years, there have been fewer and fewer of them. So far, the submarine movies I have seen are mainly about German submarine U-boats in World War II or the Cold War era, when the U.S. and the Soviet Union were at odds. This film is set in the modern submarine era of the 2000s.
Among such submarine movies, “Hunter-Killer,” based on the novel “Firing Poin,” co-written by George Wallace, former captain of the U.S.S. Houston, and Don Keith, award-winning journalist and best-selling novelist, was an action-packed submarine movie starring Gerard Butler. Gerard Butler was cast in the lead role in this action-packed submarine picture film.
In this Movie, the submarine is only a practical tool of war, and the powerful battle scenes on land, in the air, and on the sea, the submarine’s stage, were beautiful. It also featured numerous human characters, each fascinating as an ensemble piece. In particular, Gerard Butler’s role as the cold-hearted commander is a must-see!
Three manly leaders and their subordinates.
The Movie is an ensemble piece, with characters in a variety of settings, including the USS Arkansas, the primary setting.
1. Captain Joe Glass and his crew.
The protagonist of the Movie, Captain Joe Glass, is a beat-up commanding officer who is not a Naval Academy graduate. He makes the difficult decision to rescue survivors from a sunken Russian submarine. It was a decision that was prepared to violate regulations. It is one action that saved the lives of the crew of the USS Arkansas, and I felt a strong sense of trust between the captain and the crew.
2. Reconnaissance unit captain Bill and rookie sniper Martinelli.
Bill, described by his subordinates as having a “three-piece set of temper, fury, and explosions,” was especially harsh with sniper Martinelli. It was heartwarming to see him risk his life for his men.
During a mission to rescue Russian President Zakarin, Martinelli was wounded in the leg by an attack from Russian troops, making it difficult for him to act. At that time, Bill promised to return and temporarily decided to go his separate ways. After completing his mission, Bill returned safely to the war zone to rescue Martinelli as promised.
3. Captain Andropov and the Destroyer’s Crew.
When continued attacks by Russian destroyers made it difficult for the USS Arkansas to continue hiding on the ocean floor, Captain Andropov radioed to the destroyer crew, telling them not to attack. The destroyer crew, who had once been Andropov’s students, heard his words and stopped attacking at once.
This Movie is a battle action and a human drama to be enjoyed. With many moving scenes created by the power of “trust,” it is well worth seeing.
Tense production without “sound” in the submarine
Toward the end of the story, the crew of the USS Arkansas, guided by their rescued captain Andropov, infiltrate the Poryarnui naval base, deep in the fjord.
The atmosphere is tense, where even the sound of objects being dropped, conversation, and breathing can be fatal. In the limited space available, the anxious expressions on the faces of the crew members spoke volumes about the tense situation. You will experience a stifling experience, as if you were in a submarine.

Sea, land, and air combat action
The Movie has many battle scenes, including underwater battles of submarines, land operations of reconnaissance units, and the destruction of the Russian headquarters by the Russian Air Force, which will fascinate fans of action movies.
The underwater battles in particular were worth watching for the ups and downs woven by the “silence” of hiding in the darkness of the deep sea and the “roar” of the torpedoes used to defeat the enemy. The sense of urgency that makes you tense at the slightest sound is unforgettable. In addition, the missiles released from the destroyer were also a powerful scene. The scene of huge missiles slamming into the sea’s surface and aiming at submarines in the deep ocean is breathtaking in its power.
In other ground battles, I was overwhelmed by the speed of the reconnaissance unit’s aerial infiltration scene.
Captain Joe Glass and Captain Andropov’s cross-border trust.
Captain Joe Glass, who made the rule-breaking decision to rescue survivors from a Russian battleship, and Captain Andropov, who decided to cooperate after being informed of a plot by a traitor in his own country. Although these two men are adversaries, I was moved by their mutual understanding.
Because they had spent so much time in the water in their respective countries, following instructions from headquarters, they could understand each other’s anguish and determination deeply. This film, which depicts a new kind of joint struggle between “Russia and America,” transcending the “Russia vs. America” conflict structure, teaches us the importance of friendship and cooperation that transcends national borders.

Summary
Although there is a heavy atmosphere unique to submarines, the power of the torpedoes rushing through the water is excellent, and the underwater battles and the aerial and land operations were outstanding.
