*The following touches on some critical points of the story. Please be careful if you have yet to see the movie.
The exciting power struggle between Hideyoshi and Katsuie
The Kiyosu Conference” focuses on the power struggle between Hideyoshi and Katsuie.
The “Kiyosu Conference” was held to decide the Oda family’s successor after Nobunaga Oda’s death.
Hideyoshi has gained momentum by avenging Nobunaga’s death, and Katsuie, who is not pleased with Hideyoshi’s successor, nominate different persons as their successors.
Hideyoshi nominated Oda’s second son, Nobuo, while Katsuie nominated his third son, Nobutaka. One of them would be the successor. Hideyoshi and Katsuie planned to make their nominee the successor to gain power later.
Hideyoshi tries to increase his allies through intrigues and bargaining to get his opinion passed at the council. Katsuie, on the other hand, is a clumsy but passionate character, using his personality to increase his allies.
The differences between Hideyoshi’s and Katsuie’s methods of gaining allies and the comical interactions between the characters in gaining allies are exciting.
Hideyoshi Hashiba has an interesting visual.
The main character of this film, Hideyoshi Hashiba, is played by Hiroshi Oizumi. Hiroshi Oizumi is a member of the theater unit TEAM NACS. In addition to acting, Mr. Oizumi is also active as a TV personality, mainly in variety shows in Hokkaido.
Mr. Oizumi plays Hideyoshi Hashiba, who later became Hideyoshi Toyotomi. Hideyoshi Toyotomi is a super celebrity who is always mentioned in textbooks as the person who unified the country.
Because Hideyoshi is a super-famous character, he appears as the main character or in a leading role in various works. Because he is a top or leading-class figure, Hideyoshi is generally portrayed as a fantastic character.
Although Hideyoshi is portrayed as excellent in various works, the actual Hideyoshi was called “monkey” or “bald rat” by Nobunaga.
The visual depiction of Hideyoshi in “The Seisu Conference” faithfully reproduces the “bald rat.
The director, Koki Mitani, wanted to show that even a “bald rat” can be fantastic.
Hideyoshi’s visuals are so bad that Mr. Oizumi, who plays Hideyoshi, strongly resisted the idea. However, as the story progresses, Hideyoshi looks more relaxed and excellent.
Interesting characters with rich personalities
In addition to Hideyoshi, “Kiyosu-Kaigi” is a work with many unique characters.
Among the many unique characters, Ikeda Tsuneoki is particularly noteworthy.
There are four attendees at the meeting to decide who will succeed him, in addition to Hideyoshi and Katsuie, Niwa Nagahide, Katsuie’s ally and advisor, and Ikeda Tsuneoki.
Tsuneoki is a calculating man who only clarifies his position at the end of the meeting to take the more practical side.
Tsuneoki plays an essential role in the story, as his presence prevents Hideyoshi and Katsuie from deciding who has the upper hand until the end.
