The TV series “PSYCO-PASS Psycho-Pass” has been highly acclaimed for its unique worldview. It is a masterpiece with many deep-rooted fans. PSYCO-PASS the Movie” is a sequel to the TV series.
Although there is a brief explanation at the beginning of the film, the setting is rather complex, so it is recommended to watch the TV series “PSYCO-PASS Psycho-Pass” beforehand.
The first and second seasons of the TV series were only shown in Japan, and this is the first time for the series to look overseas, where the world is such a miserable and lawless place. Therefore, the question of the SIBYL SYSTEM is still necessary.
The work called PSYCO-PASS
For those who are watching “PSYCO-PASS” for the first time, here are some preliminary details you should know.
The work is set in Japan soon, where the “Sibyl System” has been introduced to quantify all kinds of human psychological states and personality tendencies. In particular, crime-related values are measured as “crime coefficients.” Even if a person has not committed a crime, if a crime coefficient above a specified value is detected, they will be detained or punished as a “potential offender,” a pre-criminal person. To control crimes in such a surveillance society, detectives of the Public Security Bureau use the “Dominator,” a unique pistol connected to the Sibura system, and work with enforcement officers once identified as potential offenders to maintain public order.
This film depicts the activities and conflicts of the Public Security Bureau’s Criminal Section 1, and “PSYCO-PASS the Movie” is the story of introducing the Sibyl System to a country in conflict.
The most appealing aspect of “PSYCO-PASS the Movie” is its profound story that questions the definitions of “justice” and “happiness. In this world, every part of a person is quantified and constantly managed by AI.
Even suitable professions and significant life choices are automatically guided by AI, and thanks to this thorough society, people’s lives are guaranteed.
The same applies to the crime above coefficient: those who exceed the specified value are immediately killed; AI’s judgment is absolute, with no exceptions, even for people who have committed no crime.
In such a controlled society, “Where is the will of people? What is the happiness of people? What is justice? What is justice?
A series of powerful action scenes

A series of powerful action scenes
One of the highlights of “PSYCO-PASS the Movie” is the decisive action scenes. The TV series was highly acclaimed for its action scenes, but this film is even more polished, and the battle scenes will make your hands sweat. The tense action scenes are definitely top-class.
I was disappointed that the story was less brutal and tragic than the first and second seasons.
This work will be a complement to the third season or OVA.
The killing scene by the Dominator is a bit grotesque, so those who are not fond of grotesqueries may need to be careful.
One disappointing aspect of “PSYCO-PASS the Movie” is that there is a lot of English dialogue in the beginning. Each line in “PSYCO-PASS” has a deep meaning, and many of the statements are challenging to understand, even in Japanese. Nevertheless, most of the dialogue in the early part of the movie is in English, and the voice actors are Japanese, which gives the impression that the movie is quite difficult to watch.
Nevertheless, the development from the middle to the end of the film is superb. I can’t go into details because it would be a spoiler, but my favorite is the last scene after the staff roll. Think you’ve been tricked, and enjoy the film until the end.
If you like PSYCO-PASS with this film, please watch the TV series!
Since “PSYCO-PASS the Movie” is a follow-up to the TV series, I strongly recommend that you first watch the first and second seasons of “PSYCO-PASS.” If you were hooked after watching the TV series, you would enjoy “PSYCO-PASS the Movie” as well.
