The title refers to book thieves. As Nazi Germany headed toward war, it banned the free reading of books and forced citizens to burn large quantities of books in public squares. Liesel carefully hides and brings home one of the books that survived the fire. I am moved by her desperate efforts to protect it, despite her weakness.

Despite the title “Maze Runner,” there’s no maze here—just more running and escaping than in the first film. While the movie is full of thrills, it ends before exhaustion sets in. As a result, it feels like a typical middle entry in a trilogy, for better or worse.

This film was released as a spinoff film focusing on Han Solo, Chewbacca, and the Millennium Falcon, popular characters from the old Star Wars trilogy, now known as Episodes 4 through 6.
